All Reading HW (except the Reading Log) is to be completed in the Language Journal. Please make sure your child returns the Language Journal to school each day as it will also be used to house class notes and other in-class assignments.**
I have uploaded the reading log and monthly calendar below. You can find this information as well as the weekly spelling lists on the 5th Grade Wiki which is accessible from the school website.
§Spelling– A list of possible homework assignments will be glued in the Language Journals. Students must complete any three (3) they choose from the list. All HW is due on Tuesday unless otherwise stated. Definitionsand spelling will be tested each Tuesday unless otherwise indicated.
§Language – On Tuesday and Thursday nights your child’s language homework will be written in their Language Journal and will consist of a writing assignment. Topics will vary but each response should be a minimum of two well-constructed paragraphs.
§Reading Log - Studies have shown that a mere twenty minutes spent reading each night can improve students’ test scores. Therefore, all fifth graders will read for at least twenty minutes outside of the school day. Your child should complete the Reading Log to indicate that the number of minutes read outside of school each week. A minimum of eight entries every ten days is required. Extra credit will be given for reading over 20 minutes per day.
